After recovering from the trip across the pond to the UK, I took off Thanksgiving day with some mates for some extreme backpacking in the Ouachita Mountains of Oklahoma. Yes, it was extreme. We covered about 23 miles in about two days of solid backpacking. Backpacking: - carrying everything you need on your back. If it's on my back, it's light weight and essential. Yes, I consider a flask of Scotch essential. I even go to the extremes of cutting off the little tags on the backpacking clothes to trim weight - hey - tenths of ounces quickly turn into ounces which rapidly turn into pounds.
